These Oreo brookies are a combination of a brownie Oreo cookies and Oreo chocolate chip cookies into one amazing cookie. These cookies are fudgy, chewy, and full of chocolate chips and Oreos. They are the ultimate Oreo cookie!

For these Oreo brookies, I combined my Oreo brownie cookie recipe with my Oreo chocolate chip cookies recipe. I turned it into one amazing cookie combination!

Both of those cookies are my favorite cookies, so turned it into one cookie is a dream come true! These are cookies vs a brownie bar, so they give you a chewy texture with crisp edges. This recipe is perfect for chocolate lovers!

    Why This Recipe Works

    • Drop cookies- A lot of brookie recipes are made in a square pan, however this recipe are actually cookies! They are next level!
    • Oreo brownie cookies- This brownie cookie dough is super chocolatey and full of chocolate chips and Oreos. It gets swirled into the cookie dough, but it still gives a crinkle top.
    • Oreo chocolate chips cookie- This is a chewy cookie full of Oreos and chocolate chips. This cookie helps to give the brookie those crisp edges. They are like fudgy brownie cookies!
    • Swirled cookies- To swirl these cookies, you use two scoops of each dough and use your hands to swirl them together.
    • Chewy texture- The chewy centers are the best!

    Ingredient Notes

Here are some notes on the ingredients. For a full list of ingredients, check out the recipe card below.

    • Chocolate Bar- I used Lindt 70% dark chocolate bar. Use a high quality chocolate and melt it in the microwave. Let it cool slightly before adding, so it doesn't melt the butter.
    • Unsweetened cocoa powder- For best results, use a dutch-process cocoa powder like this one. This will give you a rich chocolate taste.
    • Unsalted butter- For the brownie cookies, pull it out 2 hours before baking so it is room temperature. For Oreo cookies, the butter should be melted and cooled. If the butter is too hot, then the cookies will spread.
    • Brown sugar- I used light brown sugar.
    • Eggs- Pull the large eggs out 2 hours before baking.
    • Chocolate chips- I recommend semisweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips. I don't recommend milk chocolate chips because it will be too sweet.
    • Oreos- Use regular Oreos. I don't recommend double stuff Oreos because it will too much moisture.

Step By Step Instructions- Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Here is how to make and bake these cookies. This recipe needs a stand mixer with a paddle attachment or a hand mixer (electric mixer) for the brownie cookie batter. The Oreo chocolate cookies doesn't need a mixer and can be made by hand.

Start with Oreo chocolate chip cookie cookie dough first, then do the brownie cookie dough brownie batter.

STEP 1: Mix dry ingredients. In a medium bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

STEP 2: Mix the wet ingredients. In a large bowl using a rubber spatula, mix the melted butter, brown sugar, white sugar, vanilla extract, and egg.

    Wet ingredients in a bowl.

STEP 3: Add flour mixture. Next, add the flour mixture, Oreo crumbs, Oreo pieces, and chocolate chips. Set the cookie dough aside while you make the brownie cookie dough.

Step By Step Instructions- Oreo Brownie Cookie Dough

STEP 1: Melt the chocolate. First, melt the chocolate in the microwave until it is melted. Then, let it cool while you make the cookie dough.

STEP 2: Mix the dry ingredients. Next, mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt together.

STEP 3: Mix the wet ingredients. Using a mixer in a large bowl, beat the butter, brown sugar, and sugar on high speed for 2 minutes. Then, add in the vanilla and melted chocolate and beat on high for 1 minute.

Next, add in the egg and beat that again for 1 minute.

STEP 4: Add the flour mixture. Then, add in the flour mixture, chocolate chips, Oreo crumbs, and chopped Oreos and mix on low speed until just combined.

Chill the dough brownie cookie dough only for 10-15 minutes while the oven preheats. It needs only a short chill time.

STEP 5: Scoop the dough. Use 1 oz cookie scoop and scoop all of the brownie cookie dough on a plate, and all of the Oreo chocolate chip cookie dough on a plate.

Then, take one of each type of cookie dough and use your hands to roll them together. I will flatten them together slightly, and use my fingers to pinch and twist the doughs together before rolling.

This allows the cookie doughs to swirl together first being two halves.

Using my hands to roll the cookie dough.

STEP 6: Bake. Place 6 large cookie dough balls per cookie sheet. (They should have parchment paper on the cookie sheets.) Bake one baking pan at a time for 13-15 minutes until the edges are golden.

Top the cookies with extra chocolate chips and large pieces of Oreos and cool on a cooling rack.

    Expert Baking Tips

    • Flour- Make sure the flour is spooned and leveled. If you stick the measuring cup directly into the flour, it will compact the flour. Compacted flour can cause the cookies to not spread.
    • If the cookies are spreading, make sure you are using parchment paper on the cookie sheet and the butter needs to be room temperature and not warm. If the cookies are still spreading too much, add an extra 2 Tablespoons of flour. This will help with the spread.
    • The cookies should be slightly underdone, because they will continue to cook as they cool. This helps to make sure they have chewy centers.

    FAQ

Can I make these into smaller cookies?

Yes you can, they will be less chewy though. Use a 1 Tablespoon and place 8 cookie dough balls per cookie sheet. Bake for 8-11 minutes.

Can these cookie dough balls be frozen?

Yes they can! Store the cookie dough balls in an airtight container or use plastic wrap. Store in the freezer for 30 days. Let the cookie dough balls thaw completely before baking.

Can I chill the cookie dough overnight?

Yes you can. However, I recommend making them into cookie dough balls first before chilling overnight. Then, let it come to room temperature before baking.

    Storing and Freezing

Store these Oreo brookies cookies in an airtight container at room temperature. Store up to 5 days.

    Freezing

The Oreo brookies can be frozen. Store in an airtight container and freeze up to 30 days. Thaw for 1-2 hours before eating.

    • ½ cup Unsalted butter melted and cooled
    • ¼ cup White granulated sugar

    • 1 teaspoon Pure vanilla extract
    • 1 Large egg room temperature
    • ¾ cup Semisweet chocolate chips
    • ⅓ cup Oreo pieces small and medium pieces
    • ¼ cup Oreo crumbs fine crumb

    Instructions

    Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies

    • Start with the Oreo chocolate chip cookie dough first. Melt the butter in the microwave and cool for 10-15 minutes until room temperature.
      ½ cup Unsalted butter
    • In a medium bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. Using a food processor, blend 8 cookies a few times until they are in pieces. Then, blend 4 cookies until they are a fine crumb. Separate out Oreo pieces and Oreo crumbs for both recipes.
1 ⅓ cup All-purpose flour, ¼ teaspoon Baking powder, ¼ teaspoon Baking soda, ½ teaspoon Salt
    • In a large bowl, mix the melted butter, brown sugar, sugar, vanilla, and egg using a rubber spatula.
½ cup Unsalted butter, ¼ cup White granulated sugar, ½ cup Brown sugar, 1 teaspoon Pure vanilla extract, 1 Large egg
    • Add the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Add the chocolate chips, Oreo pieces, and Oreo crumbs. Set aside while you make the brownie cookie dough.
¾ cup Semisweet chocolate chips, ⅓ cup Oreo pieces, ¼ cup Oreo crumbs

    Brownie Cookie

    • Melt the chocolate in the microwave for 20 seconds and stir. Then, heat in 15 second intervals and mix well in between until melted. Let it cool.
      4 oz Semi-sweet chocolate bar
    • In a medium bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
½ cup All-purpose flour, 3 tablespoon Unsweetened cocoa powder, ¾ teaspoon Baking powder, ½ teaspoon Salt
    • Using a mixer, beat the butter, brown sugar, and sugar on high for 2 minutes. It will be fluffy. Add in the melted chocolate and the vanilla. Beat on high speed for 1 minute and scrape the bowl.
4 oz Semi-sweet chocolate bar, ¼ cup Unsalted butter, ½ cup Brown sugar, 3 tablespoon White granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon Pure vanilla extract
    • Add in the egg and mix on medium for 1 minute. Add in the dry ingredients and mix on low until just combined. Add the chocolate chips, Oreo pieces, and Oreo crumbs and mix until just combined.
1 Large egg, ¾ cup Semisweet chocolate chips, ½ cup Oreo pieces, ⅛ cup Oreo crumbs
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper. Set aside. While the oven is preheating, chill the brownie cookie dough in the fridge for 10-15 minutes. It should be less of a wet dough. Only the brownie dough needs to chill, the Oreo chocolate chip cookie dough doesn't need to chill.
    • While the brownie cookie dough is chilling, use a 1 oz cookie scoop and scoop a heaping cookie scoop of the Oreo chocolate chip cookie dough. Place the scoops on a plate. Once the brownie cookie dough is done chilling, do the exact same for that one. You should have two plates full of small cookie dough balls.
    • Using your hands, take one brownie cookie dough ball and one Oreo chocolate chip cookie dough ball and flatten them together slightly. Take the dough and slightly swirl them together by pinching and folding the dough. Then, roll it into a ball using your hands.
    • Place 6 cookie dough balls per cookie sheet. Bake one sheet at a time. Bake for 13-15 minutes until the edges are slightly golden and the middle is slightly underdone.
    • Top the warm cookies with extra Oreo pieces and chocolate chips. Let them cool on the hot pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

    Notes

Flour- Make sure flour is spooned and leveled or use a kitchen scale. Compacted flour can dry out the cookies.
High altitude baking- Add an extra 1 tablespoon of flour per cookie dough.
Pull out dairy ingredients 2 hours before baking.
